GreenToronto November 24th Eco-Makerspace Workshop
The workshop began with a fun and interactive AI discovery session. Three youth volunteers used animated PowerPoint slides and guided questions to introduce children to the idea of artificial intelligence (AI). Through simple, real-life examples, such as drawing tools, voice assistants, and smart devices - participants learned how AI appears in everyday life. Children eagerly raised their hands, shared their thoughts, and explored how technology can spark creativity and imagination. As the Lunar New Year approaches, the youth-led nonprofit organization GreenToronto hosted a vibrant and heartwarming community craft workshop for younger children, celebrating the spirit of the season through creativity, culture, and connection. The room was filled with energy as young participants gathered around tables, guided by teenage volunteers who helped them transform simple, eco-friendly materials into colorful New Year-themed crafts. While this year marks the Year of the Horse, the activities focused more broadly on symbols of celebration, hope, and togetherness. Children decorated their creations with bright reds and golds, drew joyful faces and festive designs, and shared their own wishes for the coming year. Founded and operated by youth, GreenToronto aims to go beyond traditional art activities. The organization uses creative workshops to inspire younger children to care for their community, appreciate different cultures, and develop an early sense of environmental responsibility and social engagement. Throughout the session, volunteers worked closely with each child, encouraging imagination, collaboration, and self-expression. The workshop became a space not only for crafting, but also for storytelling, laughter, and building confidence through hands-on learning. This Lunar New Year-themed event highlighted the powerful role young leaders can play in bringing communities together. By blending art, culture, and service, GreenToronto continues to create meaningful experiences that spread joy, nurture creativity, and strengthen community bonds—one workshop at a time.
